APRIL 23RD: WORLD BOOK DAY AND ST GEORGE'S DAY

St George’s Day is celebrated on 23 April in the countries and regions which have St George as their patron saint (England, Bulgaria, Portugal, Catalonia and Aragón amongst others).

St George was born in Turkey in 270 AD. He joined the Roman army but disagreed with the Romans’ torture of Christians.

He was beheaded for his beliefs on 23rd April, 303.

He is always depicted as a knight on horseback carrying a shield with a red cross.

One of the best-known stories about Saint George is his fight with
 dragon.

This video from You Tube shows a version of his legend.
